About
Visit the Guinness World Record holder and Prince of Wales award winning attraction that is the Great Orme Mines, the oldest metal mine open to the public anywhere in the world.
Walk the 3,500 year old underground passageways that lead to the Great Cavern; the largest prehistoric underground excavation in the world.
Returning to the surface follow the pathways to the 4,000 year old Opencast Mine and at the Smelting Shelter you'll see a video demonstration of how our prehistoric ancestors turned ore into metal. Then, travelling forwards in time from the Bronze Age to the nineteenth century you'll view from above a 470 foot mine shaft that extends all the way down to sea level.
Also onsite is a shop selling crystals, fossils, jewellery, books and more, as well as a secondhand bookshop.
