We have a special breed of golf here in Wales.

It’s called ‘golf as it should be’, a description inspired by our friendly, welcoming clubs, unstuffy attitude, great-value green fees and the way in which we remain true to the spirit of the game.

Oh, and our courses aren’t bad either.

Links golf is a Welsh speciality – and it doesn’t come any better than at the North Wales Golf Club (Llandudno) and Conwy.

Of the latter, golfing journalist Jeremy Ellwood wrote: ‘Conwy is a links of some considerable repute, its excellent layout complemented by the views.’

The North Wales Golf Club across the estuary from Conwy is another true championship challenge.

It has more of those fabulous sea and mountain views, something it shares with Llandudno’s Maesdu Golf Club, where the golf – a gently undulating mix of links and parkland – offers the best of both worlds.

There’s more great parkland golf along the coast at Llanfairfechan, Penmaenmawr, Rhos-on-Sea and Abergele, a quartet of fine parkland courses.

Inland, Betws-yn-Rhos near Abergele is home to the Silver Birch Golf Club, a popular course set in rolling hills.

Good views come with the golfing territory in these parts.

Betws-y-Coed’s delightful parkland course commands stunning vistas of the Conwy Valley and Snowdonia.
