You are here: Home > Things to Do > Welcoming Winter in Conwy
As the nights draw in, there’s lots to look forward to in North Wales. Get ready for fireworks, festivals, forest walks and delicious winter recipes to warm the soul.
Winter’s on the way
Hats and gloves at the ready – the beginning of winter is a wonderful time of year. Just days after we bid a fond farewell to our autumn pumpkins and hang up our spooky Halloween costumes for another year, it’s time to celebrate the new season with a bang. Llandudno Fireworks will light up Llandudno Bay on Sunday 3 November 2024. Colwyn Bay has a bonfire and fireworks, too.
Get ready for Christmas in Conwy
Bonfire Night heralds the start of the festive season. If a sky full of sparkles is enough to get you in the mood for Christmas shopping, Conwy’s towns and villages are sure to inspire – they have a host of charming boutiques stocking artisan-made gifts, special souvenirs and beautiful winter finds.
For the ultimate Christmassy buzz, head to Llandudno for the Christmas Parade. This year, it will fill the streets with colour and joy on Saturday 7 December 2024. Santa will be there – so why not say hello-ho-ho?
Rest and revive on a winter wellness break in Conwy
Instead of hibernating this winter, why not rejuvenate? On a spa break or a fitness weekend, you could enjoy a low-impact workout in a tranquil indoor pool, boost your cardio-vascular health in the gym or simply relax in a sauna, steam room and relaxation room. With the social whirl of the Christmas season approaching, now’s the time to pamper yourself with beauty and well-being treatments to pep up your complexion and boost your inner glow.
Treat yourself to a culinary adventure
Winter is a time to spin out your mealtimes and indulge in some flavoursome fare. Conwy’s inviting restaurants and cosy gastropubs are perfect for settling down with family and friends for a delicious catch-up. The county’s winter menus will warm your soul – think delightfully presented creations featuring fresh seasonal ingredients such as mushrooms, game and herbs, some of them foraged locally by the chefs themselves. Many of our loveliest eateries have stunning countryside or sea views thrown in.
Bring your dog to Conwy
Dogs are always welcome in Conwy County. Whether they’re trotting through frosty woodlands or tearing around like a lunatic on a huge, dog-friendly beach like Conwy Morfa, there’s loads to get your four-legged friend’s tail wagging at this time of year.
Conwy has plenty of dog-friendly cafés and accommodation. Cantîn, the café at Conwy Culture Centre, has a special menu for dogs, and Dudley & George’s café in Llandudno sells eco-friendly treats, toys and accessories. Its in-house grooming spa, Hotdogs Bathhouse, will delight the most discerning dog.
Make winter your own on an adventurous weekend in Conwy
Why not try something totally different? Mynydd Sleddog Adventures is the first and only activity company in Wales to offer dog-drawn sled riding. Based in South Alwen Forest, the team consists of a range of breeds including Siberian Huskies and Scandinavian Hounds. They all love running – and with wheels on your sled, there’s no need to wait for snow.
All year round, there’s excitement aplenty in Snowdonia-Eryri National Park. On a thrilling caving trip with Go Below Underground Adventures near Betws-y-Coed, you’ll be ziplining through caverns, climbing up a vertical shaft and boating across a subterranean lake. Epic!
Raise a glass to the season
To taste something truly warming, discover Conwy’s locally-made beers, wines and spirits. They feature on the wine lists and cocktail menus of all our best addresses, and pair beautifully with locally-made charcuterie, cheese and even artisan chocolate. To learn more, you could book a tour of a distillery or winery, try a whisky-making masterclass, or take a fun course in mixology, creating cocktails to make your tastebuds zing. Alternatively, simply pour yourself a glass, and enjoy. Cheers!
Get cosy in Conwy
When you’re choosing a hotel, guesthouse, B&B or cottage for a winter break, think classy, cute and cosy. Shorter days and unpredictable weather mean that you’ll be keen to spend more time snuggling up indoors than you would in summer. So why not indulge yourself: book somewhere fabulous, and really make the most of it?
