Accessibility statement

This statement applies to content published on the www.visitconwy.org.uk domain. This website is managed by Conwy County Borough Council under the Visit Conwy brand. We want as many people as possible to be able to use this website. For example, that means you should be able to:

• zoom in up to 300% without the text spilling off the screen
• navigate most of the website using just a keyboard
• navigate most of the website using speech recognition software

We’ve also made the website text as simple as possible to understand.

This website is partially compliant with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines version 2.1 AA standard, due to the non-compliances and exemptions listed below. We are working on these parts of the site and are committed to producing an accessible site for all users.

Content that is not accessible

• Written content. Content on our site has been reviewed and rewritten so that it conforms to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG). However, we have examined a number of pages where the reading ease of the content is poor.
• Images. Images on pages do not always have suitable alternative text. Some images are missing alternative text and some have incomplete text. This fails WCAG 1.1.1A success criterion (Non-text Content). We plan to identify and fix these by September 2020.
• Forms. Some of our online forms are difficult to navigate using just a keyboard
• Pre-recorded time-based media. Pre-recorded time based media added to the site prior to 23rd September 2020 doesn’t have captions or audio descriptions. This doesn’t meet WCAG 2.1 success criterion 1.2.3 (Audio Description or Media Alternative (Pre-recorded). We plan to update these in due course.

Content that’s not within the scope of the accessibility regulations

• PDFS. Most older PDF documents aren’t fully accessible to screen reader software. We will be reviewing all PDF documents. However from 23rd September 2020 we will be ensuring all newly added PDFs are fully accessible.
• Third party content such as business listings. We do try and monitor the content that third parties provide for our website such as images, descriptions and documents. However sometimes due to resources this may not be possible. Some documents that third parties have provided have not been developed or paid for by ourselves, and therefore might not reach the accessibility standards required.
• Online maps. We will try and ensure online maps are as accessible as possible, but online maps are currently exempt from meeting the accessibility regulations.

Disproportionate burden

This website complies with The public Sector Bodies (websites and Mobile Applications)(No.2) Accessibility Regulations 2018.

• Content

Most of the content on our site has been reviewed and rewritten so that it conforms to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG). However, we have examined a number of pages where the reading ease of the content is poor. We've assessed the cost of fixing these documents and we believe that the cost of this work would be a disproportionate burden as outlined in the accessibility regulations. However, we will ensure that any new pages added from 23^rd September 2020 meets the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG).

This website was last tested on 17^th September 2020. The test was carried out by our own team who tested a sample of webpages to check accessibility standards.

We decided on our sample test pages by identifying most popular pages on our website and checking how accessible they are.
