We serve up a tasty mix of towns and villages, seaside resorts and mountain boltholes. ‘Beside the sea’ experiences extend from the classy – and classic – charms of Victorian Llandudno to all the fun of the fair at places like Towyn and Kinmel Bay. We have big resorts (great for shopping as well as sandcastles) and small resorts (great for strolling and sensational sunsets), historic towns such as castle-crowned Conwy, stylish waterfronts like Deganwy and the exciting watersports centre and purpose-built beach at Colwyn Bay.
Heading inland, the Vale of Conwy is a gorgeous green corridor leading from the sea to the mountains of Snowdonia. But it’s a mistake to rush through, for the valley and its surroundings are dotted with pretty villages and handsome country towns like Llanrwst.
There’s history at almost every turn, and a host of attractions, including superstars like Bodnant Garden.
One side of the vale is flanked with the heather moors, lakes and forests of Mynydd Hiraethog. We make no excuse for giving this high country – its name translates as “long gorse-covered or gorse-land mountain” – a special mention. It’s often overlooked, which means that you might miss out on this hauntingly beautiful area, scattered with small, traditional settlements that reward exploration.
Everyone has heard of Betws-y-Coed. It’s the ultimate mountain resort that ticks all the boxes – great location at the gateway to Snowdonia, great attractions and great shopping. No wonder it’s busy throughout the year.
