In a nutshell. Get the inside knowledge on Conwy, Llandudno, Rhos-on-Sea and Colwyn Bay.
To point you in the right direction we’ve devised four special town trails.
The Llandudno Town Trail takes in 15 locations, from promenade to pier, shopping streets to sandy beaches, gardens to the Great Orme headland. Along the way you’ll discover why Llandudno looks the way it does – the perfect Victorian ‘model resort’ – and how it has managed to keep its original appearance over the years. Oh, and you’ll also discover its links with Alice in Wonderland and come across a six-sided Victorian pillar box, a rare survivor just like the resort itself.
Next door is quiet, understated Rhos-on-Sea. But it’s not shy of blowing its own historic trumpet on the 26-point Rhos Heritage Walk. There are surprises at almost every step of this easy-to-walk route. Highlights include the tiny St Trillo’s Chapel, thought to be the smallest church in Britain (it seats just six), maritime history along the seafront and harbour (including the story of Prince Madoc and the discovery of America), and the ancient hillfort of Bryn Euryn.
The Colwyn Bay Heritage Trail also takes you on a trip into yesteryear. Its heyday as a bustling resort is reflected in the ornate shopfronts and gabled buildings you’ll see on the 29-point route. It’s fascinating to compare yesterday with today – the period photograph in the trail booklet, for example, of the Princess Picture House, now a Weatherspoons pub. Theatr Colwyn is still with us. This Victorian gem, built in 1885, is reputedly the oldest working theatre in Wales.
Conwy Town Trail - Take this 80-minute tour of Conwy to see some of the most interesting features of the walled town and UNESCO World Heritage Site. Discover the town’s fascinating history, from early medieval beginnings to the present day. In places you will find HistoryPoints QR codes on little plaques or window stickers.
